The Town and Country Asphalting Netball squad of the Southern Sports Academy is eagerly awaiting the guest appearance of English International Netball star and current NSW Swifts player – Sonia Mkoloma this Sunday at their scheduled training session to be held at the Junee Recreation Centre from 10:00am. The 30-year-old Goal Defence, a veteran of 85 Tests, will provide a massive boost for the squad as they prepare for the upcoming NIB Games, to be held in the Hunter region in July.
Mkoloma, who this season played her 50th game for the Swifts is a veteran of three Netball World Championships, three Commonwealth Games and two Netball world Netball Series. The pinnacle of her career was realised when she gained selection in the World 7 Team in 2009, which consisted of the very best international players from around the world in that particular year.
Head Coach of the Southern Sports Academy Netball Squad, Michelle Byrne, was delighted at the prospect of having one of the best players in the world in town specifically to cast an eye over the talented squad.
“She is an amazing talent and has matched it with the best Goal Shooters in the world over an extended period so we are really looking forward to have her pass on some of her knowledge to our squad. Our squad is really starting to make its presence felt in NSW, having finished at the top of the rankings for regional academies at the recently held Academy Games, and having Sonia present just prior to the NIB Games can only help our preparation for this competition.”
Southern Sports Academy key defenders and 2010 state representatives, Madison Casley and Bridgette Keely will be especially keen to work with Mkoloma, who has a reputation for training very hard and having the same expectations on people she is coaching. Both Casley and Keely starred at the Academy Games, forming the most effective defensive outfit at the competition.
